When is your room available for hire?

Our function room is available for private hire around club activities and regular bookings. Please note that the summer season is the peak time for club activities. Albert park College are also a regular user of our room during school hours in term.

Can I do a walk through before booking?

Yes! Hirers can request a tour of our club after submitting an enquiry. Alternatively, there are regular open times, which can be viewed here!

Do I have to put down a security deposit?

Yes. A bond is required for all bookings. You can see our hire rates and bond prices listed here!

What is your cancellation policy?

After your booking is confirmed
> 30 days notice: 50% of bond price non-refundable.
14 – 30 days notice: 50% of hire fees non-refundable
<14 days notice: 100% of hire fees non-refundable

When is my booking confirmed?

A deposit of the full bond money is payable to confirm your booking, (50% nonrefundable, if function cancelled), together with the signed booking form. Balance of total cost is payable 30 days prior to function date. If the booking is less than 30 days, all money must be paid to confirm booking. The Bond is in addition to the venue hire fees is required. The function type (i.e. Awards evening, 50th Birthday) must be named in the hire agreement.

Do you offer discounts for community groups?

Yes! If you are a non-for-profit or a community focused group, please let us know when you submit an enquiry and we will get in touch with discount prices!

Does your club have WiFi?

Yes, access to WiFi is available on request.

Do you have bar services? Can I bring my own alcohol?

As a condition of its Liquor License, South Melbourne LSC (SMLSC) is required to adhere to the guidelines for the Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA). These laws must be observed by SMLSC and any Hirer of the Club facilities. All alcohol served within the SMLSC and adjacent areas associated with the hire of the club must be either supplied and served by SMLSC accredited staff or supplied by the user free of charge to the guest. The red line for alcohol consumption must be observed. Area can be closed off using white chain and signs in the storeroom. It is an offence to bring drinks of any kind on to licensed premises without permission, supply alcohol for sale, or to consume alcohol in the Club House surrounds including the beach, public terrace and driveway areas.

Please note there is a strict no glass policy.

Do you offer catering?

Kitchen facilities are available upon request. External caterers may be used provided there is prior arrangement with SMLSC.

Is there a smokers area?

SMLSC is a nonsmoking venue. It is an offence to smoke within 4 metres of a building’s entrance. It is the Host’s responsibility to be familiar with the Smoking Management Plan and to alert guests. If cigarette butts are found in the Club surrounds a fee will be deducted from the bond. Smoking is not permitted anywhere within SMLSC, including balconies.

Can I hang things on the walls?

Adhesives, pins or any items or materials of similar types are not permitted to affix decorations to ceilings, fans, walls, windows or floors.

Is there a latest closing time for my event?

All evening functions are to conclude in accordance with SMLSC liquor license, which concludes at 1am. Last drinks will be ‘called’ 30 minutes prior to the end of your function. Bands that need more than 30 minutes to pack down must finish earlier allowing for the extra time.

What events can I hold in the function room?

Our venue can suit a range of events including conferences, team building days, wedding receptions, cocktail parties, family or birthday celebrations just to name a few! SMLSC does not hire the club to the public for 18th or 21st Birthday parties.

Is anything banned in the function room?

Can I hold a ticketed event at South Melbourne LSC?

No, SMLSC cannot host events where participants purchase a ticket.

Does my hire time include set up and pack up?

Yes, hire times must include set up and pack up times to avoid clashes with other bookings. The charges for set-up/ pack-up times will be at the discretion of SMLSC based on your event and the demand of the function room at that time.

Do I have to clean up after my event?

Yes. You must leave the room the way you found it. All rubbish is to be removed from the space and placed in the correct bins, eg recyclables only in recycling bin. All items returned to storage and all areas cleaned. All floors, toilets and kitchen space must be cleaned. Any additional cleaning required as determined by the SMLSC will be deducted from the bond.

Do I have to provide security staff for my event?

Evening functions and some day functions at SMLSC committee discretion, will be required to have professional security staff. Hirers must use SMLSC authorized security staff who must be present for the entire function. Such costs for Professional Security Staff will be at the cost of the hirer. The hirer is fully responsible for the cost of a false alarm relating to fire or security call out.
